Gate510 Wayfinding + Environmental

Gate510 sat above a sea of big-box stores, invisible from the street and vast and confusing to navigate once inside.

Project Goals

Our goal was to create impactful awareness from the parking lot and strategically guide visitors through the project with ease and confirmation at critical decision points that they were heading in the right direction. Our first update included adding prominent identity to the street level signage and exteriors.

3 lobbies serve as entrances to the second floor innovator hub—the challenge, and the opportunity before us was dated, generic, barren walls that did not help move visitors along. We approached it as a blank canvas and an opportunity to introduce visitors to the energy and creativity of the tenants, as well as provide them with critical wayfinding information.

Once inside, we transformed endless corridors by developing a system of icons and breadcrumbs using color as a guide to move visitors from south to north, east to west and to identify even and odd suite locations. With over 80 businesses housed within these hallways, it was critical to provide users with useful wayfinding cues throughout.

We walked the entire property over the course of several days to map and record critical decision points that we reinforced with clear symbols and directional arrows to keep visitors on track.

We divided the property into 5 color-coded neighborhoods and then created highly visual entrances from the parking garage to serve as the primary entry for each distinct location complete with playful neon signs.

The heartbeat of the property is a newly renovated 8,000 SF shared amenity space called the Town Center. Here we were able to integrate more of the visual brand to reinforce Gate510 as a vibrant and thriving community of inventors and innovators.

With clear identifying wayfinding and signage, digital directories and a strong brand presence, this once confusing and hard to explain investment property sold to a new owner who could now understand and see its incredible value.
