Rockwood Market Hall

A community gathering place

Where fresh, local and international converge

Rockwood Market Hall is a food-centric melting pot in Rockwood, a diverse neighborhood straddling Portland and Gresham. With over 80 languages spoken within a 1.5 mile radius, the local demographics are inherently international.

As part of a larger development project, the Market Hall serves the area as a cultural hub, economic incubator and a food oasis featuring micro- and standard-size restaurants, micro-grocers and retailers, a commissary kitchen and commercial office spaces, surrounding a central community plaza.

The brand sought to establish Downtown Rockwood as a resource for culinary entrepreneurs and a foodie destination for the community at large. We needed the brand to be personal and approachable (as well as celebrate the diverse international community) but also avoid any singular international cultural identity.

Satisfy most any craving—along with your soul

We developed a holistic identity system using visually impactful custom icons and bright, saturated colors derived from ingredients. We then carried the brand across signage, marketing materials and even created custom trash wraps to infuse every aspect of the visitor experience.

The Market Hall’s authentic and diverse personality can be felt throughout the site via thoughtful design and bold touchpoints. The resulting brand both celebrates the vibrancy of the project and elevates the neighborhood.
